DESCRIPTION:
This kit is a qPCR kit for the detection of Mycoplasma spp. and M. bovis in bovine sample.
SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION:
At least 13 species of mycoplasmas have been identified in cattle. Several of them are causing serious diseases in cattle worldwide. Apart from Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides, the agent of Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), the most important bovine Mycoplasma species is certainly M. bovis. This species is causing severe mastitis that is often characterized by multiple affected quarters coupled with unresponsiveness to treatment. Other Mycoplasma species including M.alkalescens, M.arginini, M. bovigenitalium, M. californicum and M. canadense, have also been isolated from mammary infections. M. bovis is also causing pneumonia, arthritis, and keratoconjunctivitis in adults and calves as well as otitis media in calves.
On the other hand, M. bovigenitalium has been associated with bovine reproductive disorders, while M. bovoculi has been isolated from infectious keratoconjunctivitis. Finally, M. dispar is frequently detected from pneumonic calves but its role is still unclear.
Detection of Mycoplasma spp by isolation is possible but requires special media, is often time consuming, and has low sensitivity. Therefore, several molecular biological tests, including qPCR have been developed. Biovet Bovichek® Mycoplasma spp and Mycoplasma bovis qPCR kit is intended to detect most relevant Mycoplasma spp including M.alkalescens, M.arginini, M. bovigenitalium, M. californicum, M. canadense, M. bovoculi, and M. dispar and to identify Mycoplasma bovis, the most important one, in the same reaction with a high sensitivity.
